winter gardening: the end of the amaryills bulb
May 11, 2007
It was planted, then it sprouted, then it bloomed for 8 weeks and now it’s finally at it’s end.
Here’s the lowdown on what you “should” do:
- Trim the green growth back to the original bulb.
- Wrap in a dark plastic bag and put it in your fridge to “winterize” it.
Keep it in there until December. - Replant as you did this year.
Now….. I’ve never tried this method before nor do I have a lot of fridge space to spare. So, I’m not sure how long it will make it in the fridge before it gets tossed but you never know. See you in 6 months little buddy!

Hmmm, you may want to check out my website on how to get this bulb to bloom again.
Let me suggest that you grow the leaves first until they go yellow so the bulb will fatten up and produce another flower bud. Then let it go dormant for a few months but cool and dry surely doesn’t mean the frig. Then start it again 6-8 weeks before you want blooms (variable depending on temperature and light levels)
