Foraging for fun

Spend money on your friends and family (and yourself) this season, not on holiday decorations. Use what you’ve got laying around outside to decorate the outside.

Here’s what I’ve got going on my front porch this year.

  • Window boxes – believe it or not, I found these abandoned on the side of the road. Who would have thunk it?
  • Flowers – The last survivors on the hydrangea bush.
  • Winter Berry – This was the only item that was purchased (Found them at a local florist for $9 a bunch)
  • Tree sprigs – cut from the bottom of our Christmas tree
  • Pine Cones – While walking the dog I brought an extra doggie bag to the park and did a little “shopping.” Secure pine cones using floral wire.
  • Terra cotta pots – When fall hits I usually keep a few pots filled with dirt and keep them in a dry heated area. Then when Christmas time rolls around, I shove a few greens in to make a mini tree

Party etiquette rule numero uno: bring a gift for the host Ornaments – not just for trees anymore
