soot stamping… a burning mystery to me

The Paper Crafts Connection sends me their email newsletter to try and sell their books. In their Stacy & Friends: 40 techniques for making cards they teach you how to “soot stamp.” This is the teaser they give you to want to buy the book. Well, after this all i want or need to buy is a fire extinguisher. Here’s the directions, if you can figure it out, let me know.

Directions to stamp with soot:
Create a unique look by stamping on a soot-covered piece of paper. You can apply color first or use the paper’s natural color. This is a great technique for creating an antique-looking accent or background.

How To:

  1. Hold paper in center of flame until blackened with soot.
  2. Let paper cool
  3. Press stamp firmly into soot.
  4. Spray fixative on image.
