bookcase - after

When we designed our house I wanted a closet in every bathroom. What happened in actuality was something different. I got this little cubby hole in my stairway. I’ve been staring at it now for 8 months and something had to be done. First of all, I’ve been eyeing this green color paint for sometime and I was just looking for an excuse to go buy a gallon of it. Next I repurposed a fav piece of my roadside victories that fits beautifully. Then it’s off to the basement to scavenge thru the leftover building materials from the house where I un-earthed some pine boards for shelves. A little measure here, a little cut there and PRESTO, custom made built-in bookcases.

So paging thru all my magazines I’ve noticed this latest trend to put the books in spine side in to create a uniformed looked. I have to admit, thou not practical, it looks really nice. I just read this whole article on how you should never overload a shelf with books but I can only sacrifice so much for the love of design before I have to get real. I have a lot of books…. I gotta do something with them.

Love the color… and you can never have too many books! Great idea and you make it look soooo easy.
